The dress is a two-piece rose crepe outfit, featuring a short-sleeve top with heavy white wool embroidery and a knee-length full-pleated skirt with drop waist. It also features an accessory belt which was painted by studio to colour-match on screen.
The costume features in a famous scene in which Kelly sweeps Grant away on a scenic drive in a Sunbeam Alpine. It is labelled “PARAMOUNT PICTURES/ LADIES WARDROBE”, and was created by costume designer Edith Head, who was nominated for an Oscar for her work on the film.
In June 2011 the dress was featured in the Profiles in History auction of the Debbie Reynolds Collection of Hollywood costumes and props with an estimated price of $30,000 - $50,000.
