The piece was created in 1996 to mark the celebration of 3,000 years of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, featuring 10 silver gilt flames pinned to red enamel to symbolise the burning bush that, according to scripture, spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai.

It sold for 64,900 ($104,680), making an 8.1% increase on its 60,000 high estimate.

Gerald Benney (1930-2008) was one of the most influential British goldsmiths of his era, becoming the first British craftsman to hold four Royal Warrants simultaneously. The auction included much of his silver collection, which was formed with his wife, Janet.
