A George Armstrong Custer autograph is a piece of historic memorabilia bearing the signature of General George Custer.

Background information

George Armstrong Custer was an American military officer who served during both the American Civil War and the Indian Wars.

Acting as a cavalry commander during the Civil War, he earned a reputation as a daring and occasionally reckless soldier whose victories and close associations with leading officers helped him attain the rank of Major General.

This success was overshadowed by his campaigns during the Indian wars, however, during which time he was court-martialed for going AWOL, heavily criticised for disobeying orders and started the Black Hills Gold Rush by announcing the discovery of gold.

Custer’s legacy remains the Battle of Little Bighorn, known as ‘Custer’s Last Stand’, at which his forces were heavily outnumbered and defeated by a coalition of Native American tribes. Custer was killed during the battle, along with his two brothers.
