French Provincial Headboards are original wooden headboards designed to attach to bedframes.

Brief history and description

French provincial furniture items were first crafted during the 17th and 18th centuries in provincial centers in France such as Blois and Orléans.

French provincial furniture items typically feature rustic designs, as originally the items were designed to be used in local farmhouses and villages. Some of the many common attributes of French provincial style furniture items include cabriole legs and unique hand carvings or figurines.

French provincial style headboards are often crafted from a variety of different woods such as oak, beech or walnut, and are usually painted with light shades such as cream, yellow or white.

Guide for collectors

French provincial headboards that are sold with a matching bed frame and footboard are considered to be more valuable, but not necessarily rare. Headboards which feature unique hand-carvings or decorations are considered to be the most rare and valuable.

Restoration of a French provincial headboard is recommended, but only if there is noticeable damage. However, restoring the headboard may decrease its value.
