Franklin Mint Wizard of Oz collection figurines are collectible figurines manufactured by the American-based company, The Franklin Mint.

History & Description

Founded in 1964 in Wawa, Pennsylvania, by Joseph Segel, The Franklin Mint produces and markets a large selection of collectible coins, sculptures, ingots, die-cast vehicles and dolls.

In 1988, the company produced twenty figurines based on the Metro Goldwyn Myer 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland. Each miniature figurine was crafted in Tesori porcelain and was painted by hand. The collection included the characters, Dorothy with Toto, Auntie Em, the Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow, the Wicked Witch, Wizard, Galinda and a Munchkin.

Guide for collectors

Today, these figurines are highly sought after and are collected by those interested in Franklin Mint collectibles or Wizard of Oz enthusiasts. Records indicate that complete sets that come in the original display cabinet are the most valuable. While it is rare for complete sets to be sold, it is even more uncommon for individual figurines to be sold. The Lion and Dorothy are the most sought after individual figurines.

Instances of Wizard of Oz collection figurines sold through national auction houses are extremely rare. Instead, it is far more likely to purchase these products from eBay.
