First major Doig exhibition in Scotland features at National Gallery

The first major exhibition of Peter Doig's work in Scotland runs until November 3 in Edinburgh

The first major exhibition of Peter Doig's work held in Scotland takes place at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh from August 3 to November 3.

Peter Doig Scottish exhibitionPeter Doig has spent much of the past decade living in Trinidad, which has been reflected in his art

The exhibition, entitled Peter Doig: No Foreign Lands, will display a series of works created by Doig in the last decade, much of which he has spent on the Caribbean island of Trinidad.

Inspired by the tropical scenes on the island, the paintings display vivid colours on a monumental scale.

"I left Scotland as a child as many of my generation did; however, I know Edinburgh, the city where I was born, through many visits as a child and youth. To be able to exhibit my paintings in the magnificent rooms of the National Galleries is a great, great honour," the artist commented.

Doig's 1994 work Jetty saw a 22.3% increase on estimate to sell for 7.3m ($11.3m) at Christie's in June, while the current auction record for Doig's work is held by The Architect's Home in the Ravine, which brought 7.6m ($11.9m) to Christie's in February.
