Erich Heckel's Stehendes Kind to see $232,000 at Christie's

Erich Heckel's Stehendes Kind, an icon of its era, leads German impressionist works

Christie's will hold its auction of Modern and Contemporary Prints on September 18 in London, with Erich Heckel's Stehendes Kind set to highlight.

Erich Heckel Stehendes KindHeckel was a founding member of Germany's Die Brucke group

The piece (1910-1911) is valued at 100,000-150,000 ($154,752-232,128). It is far from the highest valued lot in the sale, but is described by Christie's as "a "veritable icon of the period".

"It is an unforgettable image and must have come as a shock to those who first saw it in 1911, both for the nudity and its sheer visual force," commented head of prints Tim Schmelcher.

Also starring are works from Edvard Munch, Picasso, Warhol and Giorgio Morandi.
