Elvis, The Beatles and David Beckham art is egg-ceptional

Celebrities have been immortalised as eggs in time for the Easter bank holiday weekend

David Beckham, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton and Michael Jackson have each been immortalised in art... as Easter eggs.

The Easter bank holiday isn't until Friday, but it's always Easter for the "Egg Man" - aka John Lamouranne, aged 63, from New Orleans, US.

Lamouranne has been creating his egg sculptures for over 30 years, which are remarkable as both works of art and as caricatures of their famous subjects.

His career as the Egg Man began after painting an Disney character on an egg for his daughter, after a visit to Disney World in 1978.

Later a dream, in which Lamouranne imagined himself as an Egg Man, inspired him to begin to use more than one egg in his artworks.

This resulted in group portraits featuring The Who, the cast of Tim Burton's new Hollywood adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, and The Beatles on thePeter Blake-designedSgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Bandalbum sleeve.

The figures are made with hollowed-out goose eggs for the heads, and wooden or ceramic eggs for the bodies. Lamouranne sells them for up-to $300.
