Elvis Presley record player doubles estimate at auction

A record player Elvis Presley gave as a wedding present has sold for $7,161

A record player Elvis Presley gave to a German woman has beaten its estimate by 120% at a UK auction.

Elvis gave the Perpetuum Ebner Musical 5v Luxus to Ellen Marchhauser in 1959 as a wedding gift while he was stationed in Germany with the US army.

Elvis Presley record playerElvis memorabilia is on the up - his autograph rose by 7.7% in value between 2012 and 2013

It is thought the gift was also a thank-you from Elvis to Marchhauser for undertaking some translations for his father.

Valued at 2,000 ($3,272), it sold for 4,400 ($7,161) at David Lay Auctions on December 12 - further evidence of the continuing allure of Elvis collectibles for buyers.
