Famed for its wine as well as it's fine dining, the restaurant's cellar boasted a superb range of 1,600 different wines, with Burgundy and Bordeaux to the fore, in addition to many fine editions from Spain and California.

Christie's wine specialist Anthony Hanson recently dubbed Chateau Petrus the king of wine investments.

El Bullibecame a victim of its own success, dealing with more than 2m reservation requests each year, and failing to make in a profit in its last years.

"We created a monster and it was time to find a way to tame it," said head chef Ferran Adria.

The restaurant is scheduled to reopen in 2014.
