An Egyptian sarcophagus lid has sold at auction for £12,000, despite Cairo officials attempting to block the sale claiming the lid had been 'illegally removed from Egypt'. The lid was found by auctioneer Stephen Drake, from Willingham Auctions gathering dust in the corner of a house which was undergoing renovation. It is thought to be around 3,000 years old and sold for 12 times it's pre sale estimate. The lid's new owner has now claimed that it will go on display in a private museum.
