Early Warhols and a $25k Cornell auction in New York

Christie's New York will kick off 2009 with the fourth edition of its Open House sale, on January 12.

This season's Open House will display an exciting array of post-war and contemporary works, including an assortment of paintings, sculpture, drawings and photographs from both well-known and emerging artists.

With estimates ranging from $1,000 to $80,000, Christie's are billing the Open House sale as a great opportunity to acquire works at varied prices - for both existing and new collectors.

Artists featured in the sale include Joseph Cornell, Leon Polk Smith, Andy Warhol, Jack Goldstein, Richard Tuttle and Piero Dorazio.

The sale's major highlights include Black-White Repeat, 1953, by Leon Polk Smith, estimated at $35,000-45,000; and Joseph Cornell's Pascal's Childe-Hood, 1968,selling with an estimated value of $18,000-25,000.

Theauction will also include several works by Andy Warhol, including an early piece, Untitled (Still-Life with Glass), circa 1956-1958, estimated at $30,000-40,000.

Two Warhol Polaroid Self Portraits, from 1977, will also appear, priced $8,000-12,000 each.

Pre-auction viewings for the Christie's New York sale will be held between January 9-12.
