Dutch Old Masters Willem van de Velde II and Adriaen Coorte compete at Christie's

It's not just Rembrandt being offered at Christie's sale of the Pieter & Olga Dreesmann Collection

We've already reported on the headline lot in the Pieter & Olga Dreesmann Collection of Dutch Old Master Paintings which is to be sold at Christie's: a major work by Rembrandt van Rijn entitled Bust of a Man in a Gorget and Cap.

Needless to say, however, it is not the only highlight in the sale by any means. Amongst the 17 lots, which have been described as the greatest single-owner collection of paintings of the 17th century 'Golden Age' of Dutch masters, are great works by Willem van de Velde II and Adriaen Coorte.

Bonhams set a world record for a work by Adriaen Coorte, Three Peaches on a Stone Ledge in December last year at 2.1m, so hopes will be high for an impressive result here. There are a few works by Coorte on offer, of which the pick is perhaps Asparagus and Red Currants on a Plinth (1.4m-2m).

Gooseberries and Strawberries on a Plinth (est: 1.2m-1.8m) and Peaches and Apricots on a Plinth (800,000-1.2m) are also available.

The Willem van de Velde II is likely to make a bigger splash however: Shipping in a Calm was lastoffered for sale 15 years ago and is a beautiful work, capturing the play of light and shade on the water in a way which is almost mesmerising.

In fabulous condition, it is expected to achieve 2.5m-3.5m at Christie's, which holds the world record for the artist with 5.9m, also in December 2011.
