Two hats which were worn by Kate Middleton before she became the Duchess of Cambridge sold with impressive results yesterday (June 26).

The hats sold for a combined 6,939, more than double their pre-sale high estimates of 1,500 each. The 131.2% increase seen by the hats comes as no surprise to Paul Fraser Collectibles, with Middleton already penned as the new Jackie Kennedy. The first of the pair, a black and white Philip Somerville creation, was worn by Kate in 2008 when Prince William was made a member of the Order of the Garter. It sold for 3,222, falling just behind the second item, a black "Aurora" picture hat seen at the wedding of Olympic horse-riding hopeful Harry Meade, which sold for 3,717. It was the couple's appearance atMeade's wedding that initially sparked rumours that Prince William would soon propose to Kate. Contrary to the lavish lifestyle she undoubtedly enjoys now as Duchess of Cambridge, the hats represent a more frugal time for Kate. Both of the exquisite hats were hired, rather than bought, from a local milliner. They were sold complete with the original receipts and appointment booking forms. Just one year into the couple'smarriage, the Duchess has already become a fashion icon, with her clothing realising huge figures at auction. In March 2011, the infamous see-through dress which first attracted Prince William to Kate sold for 78,000at the same auction house. And it is not just with those looking to imitate her style that Kate has proved a hit. Royal collectors are snapping up items from the couple's wedding in anticipation of the important anniversaries in years to come. PFC Auctions, our sister company, recently sold the first slice of cake from Kate and Wills' wedding for an impressive 1,917. The Duchess of Cambridge looks set to follow in the footsteps of William's mother, Princess Diana, who also became a style icon during her time with the royal family. Paul Fraser Collectibles is currently offering our customers the chance to invest in her legacy, and imitate that iconic style, with this pair of trousers worn by the princess.
