Dr Benjamin Rush's Sermons highlights sale of golfing books
Dr Benjamin Rush's book of sermons on temperance made $13,000 in San Francisco
A rare first edition copy of Dr Benjamin Rush's Sermons to Gentlemen upon Temperance and Exercise (1772) achieved $13,200 at PBA Galleries in San Francisco on February 27.
The book was written by US founding father Dr Benjamin Rush
The manuscript, which features the first mention of golf in an American publication, was the headline lot of the sale of books and memorabilia dedicated to the sport.
Rush (1746-1813), a founding father, describes the sport as "played with little leather balls stuffed with feathers; and sticks made somewhat in the form of a bandy-wicket. He who puts a ball into a given number of holes, with the fewest strokes, gets the game."
We have this glove signed by Tiger Woods and Steve Williams for sale.
