DLI silverware auctions for $94,500

An array of Durham Light Infantry (DLI) silverware auctions in the UK with impressive results

Much to collectors' delight, British military regiment Durham Light Infantry (DLI)auctioned a great deal of unused, ornamental silverware on March 27.

Yorkshire based auctioneer Anderson and Garland saw the vast majority of lots sold, many with considerable increases on their presale estimates. At the sale's close, the total hammer price stood at 61,940 ($94,290).

DLI silverware auction An ornate, Victorian punchbowl led the sale, which took place in Yorkshire, UK

An elaborately decorated Victorian punch bowl led the auction, bringing 4,700 ($7,154) - a notable 135% increase on its 2,000 reserve price - while meat skewers, rose bowls and silver salvers also put in strong performances.

Proceeds from the sale are to go towards the creation of a bronze memorial statue, commemorating the DLI's contributions to the first and second world wars.

Sales such as this serve to preserve artefacts connected with important, and all too easily forgotten, historical events.

We also have a number of fascinating items of militaria in stock, including this rare Guy Gibson Dambusters autograph.
