Diaries are a girl's best friend as new Monroe writings are published

From big ambition to mental illness, readers can now uncover the mysteries of Marilyn Monroe

Vanity Fair is publishing a series of previously-unseen private writings by Hollywood icon, Marilyn Monroe.

Despite her status as one of the 20th century's most famous actress, Monroe herself remains shrouded in mystery - which makes the publication of writings from her diaries, poems, and letters all the more remarkable.

Subjects apparently contained in the works include the scars of sexual abuse, the pain of psychotherapy, and the betrayal by Monroe's third husband, Arthur Miller.

Also mentioned are Monroe's fears of hereditary madness - her mother was schizophrenic - and the performer's fierce determination to master her art.

For now, it looks like Monroe will continue to fascinate new generations of fans and collectors for decades to come.

This is reflected by some of the items of memorabilia for sale - include a cheque signed by Monroe to her psychiatrist which emerged on the collectors markets priced at $7,425.
