Cult designer NIGO's collection to sell through Sotheby's Hong Kong

Japanese cult designer NIGO will sell items from his personal collection in October

The personal collection of cult designer and founder of clothing brand A Bathing Ape, NIGO, will be sold through Sotheby's on October 7 in Hong Kong.

KAWS and NIGO have frequently collaborated, with these two figures representing their partnership

The sale celebrates NIGO's "25 years as an influential force in the fashion landscape", with jewellery, design, memorabilia and pop culture artefacts up for grabs.

NIGO is a Japanese designer whose career began with the successful Nowhere store in Tokyo's Harajuku fashion district. Forming A Bathing Ape in the same year, he then co-founded clothing brands Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream with musician Pharrell Williams.

The top estimate of the sale goes to a set of 10 prints of Andy Warhol's famous Campbell's Soup 1, which is expected to bring between $282,000-385,000.

It is joined by Companion, two figures from KAWS, the New York-based designer known for his limited edition toys and clothing, as well as long-term collaborations with NIGO. The figures are valued at $15,000-23,000.

NIGO's Stan Smith Prototypes are a limited edition, and will no doubt be snapped up by ever-devoted sneaker collectors

KAWS and NIGO also collaborated for the upholstery design of a unique sofa that will sell with a $3,000-4,000 estimate.

The auction also offers bargains for the low budget collector, with NIGO's own Adidas Stan Smith Prototype shoes selling at $100-150, while four vintage Schwinn Sting-Ray bicycles will auction with an $800-1,000 estimate.

Many of the items trace NIGO's career, with this Jacobs & Co necklace marking his meeting with Pharrell Williams

NIGO met Pharrell Williams through Jacob Arabo, founder of jeweller Jacob & Co. A specially commissioned dollar sign necklace made from diamond and 14k white goldmarks that connection, holding an estimate of $19,000-26,000.

Even for those that have never heard of NIGO, the sale houses a selection of collector favourites, such as a set of 16 Star Wars Special action figures by Kenner, which will auction for $15,000-23,000.
