Although based on the memoirs of a 1950s police detective, the show was updated with a simple premise: three young and hip detectives using their streetwise hippie credentials to nail the bad guys.

Intended to appeal to the young counterculture audience of the time, the show ran for 123 episodes to much success andacclaim.

Along with the changing youth culture portrayed in the show's action-packed episodes, the American car market also underwent massive changes during The Mod Squad's five season run.
