4,000-year-old Egyptian statue expected to fetch around £6M has sold for £15.76M at Christies in London. The statue was sold by Northampton Museum & Art Gallery to fund a new extension which could cost £14M. The sale was met with some objection from officials. The Egyptian ambassador to Britain Ahsraf Elkholy called the sale "an abuse to the Egyptian archaeology and the cultural property" and called for the statue to be returned to the Egyptian Government.
