Brief history/biography

Clint Eastwood was born on May 31st, 1930 in San Francisco, California, and is not only considered to be one of the most iconic movie stars of the western film genre, but also an "enduring cultural icon of masculinity" due to his "macho" character portrayals in many different films.

Eastwood made his debut in the industry after earning a role in the TV series Rawhide (1959), and went on to appear in numerous different western films throughout the 1960s, such as A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), Hang 'Em High (1968), and Two Mules for Sister Sara (1970), to name a few.

Some other notable films Eastwood has starred in include Dirty Harry (1971), Magnum Force (1973), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), Pale Rider (1985), the self-directed Unforgiven (1992), (for which he received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor), In the Line of Fire (1993), Space Cowboys (2000), Gran Torino (2008), and many more.

Eastwood has directed over 30 films throughout his career, and he directed his first movie (Play Misty for Me) in 1971. Some of the many other successful films he directed include Million Dollar Baby (2004), which won an Academy Award for Best Picture as well as a win for Best Director, High Plains Drifter (1973), Mystic River (2003), Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), and Changeling (2008). Because of his talents as a director his films received many award nominations, and in 1994 he was awarded with a Ordre des Arts et des Lettres medal in France as well as a Légion d'honneur medal in 2007, and an Italian Venice Film Festival Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2000.

Profiles in History in Calabasas Hills, California sold Eastwood's gun from The Outlaw Josey Wales for $35,000 in June of 2010.

High Noon Western Americana in Los Angeles, California sold Eastwood's cowboy hat which he wore for the television series Rawhide for $12,000 in January of 2007.

Photographs

Sotheby's in Amsterdam sold an Anton Corbijn photograph of Clint Eastwood (circa 1955) for €18,000 in March of 2007.

Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas sold a For a Few Dollars More movie poster for $11,000 in November of 2008.

Christie's in London sold a collection of Eastwood movie posters, (A Fistful Of Dollars, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, Two Mules For Sister Sara, Pale Rider, High Plains Drifter and The Outlaw Josey Wales) for £1,135 in September of 2004.

Documents

Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas sold a letter between Eastwood and director Billy Wilder (circa 1954) for $6,500 in October of 2008.

Vehicles

Bonhams in Gstaad, Switzerland sold Eastwood's Ferrari for $481,800 in December of 2004.

Guide for collectors

Memorabilia that was once owned or used by Eastwood in one of his many notable western films, such as The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, For a Few Dollars More, and The Outlaw Josey Wales is considered to be the most valuable among collectors. Memorabilia that dates back to between the 1950s and 1970s is considered to be more rare and valuable than memorabilia from the 1980s to present.
