Classic Picasso could bring $90m

Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust is headed for Christie's after decades hidden from public view

Frances Lasker Brody was a Californian philanthropist and husband of real estate developer Sidney Brody. Following the death of the former in November, her collection is to come to auction in two month's time.

Some of the works on offer have the art community very excited. There are works by Matisse and Giacometti on offer which are likely to be among the most memorable pieces to come to auction this year.

Those who follow art will be aware that a Giacometti sculpture, L'Homme qui Marche, has recently become the most expensive piece of art ever to be sold, ahead of two Picassos, a Klimt and a work by Francis Bacon.

However, it is definitely a Picasso which is attracting the most attention. Last exhibited back in 1961, Nude, Green Leaves and Bust is expected to fetch anything up to $90m.

Sidney and Frances were founding benefactors of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the UCLA Art Council, and she was also on theboard of overseers for the Huntington Library in Santa Marino, California.

Some proceeds from the sale, which takes place in May, will go to the library. Those who are interested in Picasso but have misplaced their spare $90m may be interested to know that a work by 'Picasso's Muse' Francoise Gilot is currently for sale.
