Christopher Reeve Superman suit auctions for $35,000

Christopher Reeve Superman flying suit auctions with a 10% increase on its top estimate

A Christopher Reeve screen-worn Superman suit has auctioned as part of Julien's Hollywood Legends auction (April 5-6) for $35,200. The impressive sale price represents a 10% increase on the flying suit's $32,000 top estimate.

Brand new to the market, having remained in a private British collection for more than 26 years, the flying suit was worn by Reeve in 1987's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. It consists of a blue knit leotard, red cape and iconic red pants.

Martin Nolan of Julien's Auctions comments: "It's still in great condition and you can see the little sewn-in slots where cables were attached for flying manoeuvres in the film.

"It comes from somebody who had an association with the studio in the late eighties."

A life size wax mannequin of Christopher Reeve as Superman also performed well, bringing $4,625 to the sale.
