Christie's Asian Art Week sales announced

Christie's Asian Art Week sales include works from across the continent

Christie's has announced the line-up for its four days of auctions during New York's Asian Art Week, which takes place in September.

First up is a Fine Chinese Paintings sale, slated forSeptember 16.

Shi Tao plants Shi Tao was one of the most innovative painters of his era

The headline lot is Shi Tao's Plants and Calligraphy, a 17th century album that carries an estimate of $250,000-350,000. It consists of eight pages combining paintings and poems and is one of a series of works dedicated to his friend Zhou Jing.

Shi Tao is regarded as one of the most important artists of the Qing dynasty and introduced a number of techniques and innovations that would be adopted by his successors.

The Indian and Southeast Asian Art auction take places the same day.

It will feature a Gandharan grey schist figure of a bodhisattva that is expected to make $250,000-350,000.

The auction house comments that "the naturalistic attention to drapery employed in this example is characteristic of the Gandharan period and drawn from the earlier Greco-Roman influence in the region".

A selection of works from the collection of Shumita and Arani Bose will auctionon September 17 and will include pieces by Indian artistsVS Gaitonde and Souza.

A sale of modern and contemporary south Asian art is also scheduled for September 17, while the following day will see sales of cloisonne enamel and Chinese ceramics.
