Chevrolet fans are in for a treat at Mecum Auctions' next classic cars sale

A large sale dedicated to classic Corvettes should be enough to get any collector revved up...

America's car production industry is dominated by a few key players. Leading the way are the likes of Ford, Chrysler and Pontiac. One name which rightly deserves its place alongside them is Chevrolet.

A large collection of arguably their most famous type of car, the Chevrolet Corvette, is being sold off by Mecum Auctions in Illinois at the end of this week, Friday June 24 and Saturday June 25.

The assortment of classic cars, ranging from those which were produced in the early 1950s to models produced right up to the modern day, should attract a varied group of bidders from people wanting to useone of the iconic vehicles to thosewishing to keep them asan investment and make a return on their money.

More modern Chevrolets are also included in Mecum's sale

The great lots on offer include a sporty 2010 Chevrolet Callaway, an amazing 2002 Corvette Z06 from 2002, and a stunning red Karl Kustom 1976 Roadster.

Recent classic car sales suggest that the market is still strong. Other Chevrolets have sold well too, with a 1966 Corvette Big Tank Coupe reaching a price of $141,000 last December.

Similarly at RM's auction of classics in November 2010, a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Airbox Convertible hammered out a price of $374,000, along with a Fuel-Injected Chevy manufactured in the same year which also reached a high value of $209,000.

The confidence in the market is therefore clear to see, and after a number of World Records were broken in succession in 2010,car collectors had a great year last year which has continued into 2011.

This stability has seen classic cars become a real alternative to traditional investments. As Paul Fraser Collectibles has reported before, collector cars worth over $125,000 have been shown to appreciate at an average of 47% over four years.

Other lots which we have picked out as the best from this great collection are the stylish 1962 Corvette Convertible 327/340 HP, the sleek 1970 ZR1, of which just 25 were produced, and the ultimate racing car, this 1969 Chevy 'Sting Ray' Coupe.
