Cheerful Tearful Doll
The Cheerful Tearful Doll was a doll manufactured by the Mattel company in the 1960s.
The Cheerful Tearful doll is a 13” vinyl doll with jointed arms and legs, platinum blond rooted hair, and painted eyes.
The doll can change its expression and mood from happy (cheerful) to sad (tearful) when its arms are raised and lowered. The doll smiles when the left arm is raised, and pouts and cries when it is lowered. It can also be fed water, which allows it to cry real tears and wet itself.
The Cheerful Tearful doll is a popular model for vintage doll collectors, and boxed examples from 1965 – 1967 in good working condition can sell for up to $75.
Unboxed dolls missing their original clothing can be found on internet auction sites such as eBay for around $25, and even the original instruction booklet that came with the doll sells for around $5.
