Chateau Petrus 1982 makes $61,500 in Hong Kong

1982 Chateau Petrus highlighted Acker Merrall & Condits September 13-14 wine sale

A case of 1982 Chateau Petrus highlighted Acker Merrall & Condit's September 13-14 wine sale in Hong Kong.

The Bordeauxremains popular with collectors and is widely regardedas one ofthe best available on the market. The 12-bottle case achieved an impressive $61,500.

Rare Bordeaux wines were keenly fought over, with a case of 1961 Chateau Mouton selling for $31,538.

Burgundies also fared well, with a case of 1999 DRC assortment selling for $56,769. Acollection of DRC from 2001was also well received, with a casemaking $34,692.

A world record was set for 12 bottles of 2005 Leroy Romanee St. Vincentat $44,153. There was also an enthusiastic response for vintages of Screaming Eagle - including a rare full case of its 1992 debut that sold for $56,769.

In total the sale brought in $6.4m and an impressive 98% of the wines on offer were sold.

John Kapon, CEO of Acker Merrall & Condit, commented: "Continuing the momentum of our New York auction last weekend, the atmosphere here in Hong Kong was electric. People and the media keep talking about there being an economic slowdown coming in Hong Kong or China but I couldn't see anything of the sort this weekend.

"The participation of buyers from mainland China was particularly significant as they competed vigorously with collectors from Hong Kong and around the globe for some of the greatest wines in the world, driving the price of many lots beyond their estimates."
