An autographed Peanuts comic strip from Charles Schulz saw excellent results in an online sale which closed onJune 20.
The strip's value was heightened by superb provenance
The value of the four-panel strip, in which Snoopy and Woodstock play basketball, was heightened after being signed by Schulz for NBA hall of famer, Julius Erving - better known as Dr J. It was sold at the auction complete with a letter of authenticity from the basketball star himself, stating that it had belonged to him and his family. The strip's inscription read: "For Dr. J with friendship & admirationCharles M. Schulz (Sparky)", and was signed by the Peanuts creator in black felt tip across the top border. Dated October 4, 1984, the item sold for $20,123, despite a few spots of correction fluid on the second panel. Peanuts is one of the most popular and influential comic strips ever created, having been published on a daily basis for 50 years before Schulz passed away in 2000.
