The car appears in the final act of the classic 1942 movie, as Claude Rains drives to the airport at gunpoint with Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henried inside. It was part of the Warner Bros fleet, and therefore also appears in other classic films of the era, such as High Sierra (1941).

Maltese Falcon statuette bonhamsThe statuette has been described as 'arguably the most important film prop ever used'

The highlight of the auction will be one of just two statuettes made for 1941 movie The Maltese Falcon, which is speculated to sell for a seven-figure sum. Bonhams' Anne Wilson explained to Paul Fraser Collectibles:

"The market will decide for this extraordinary and unique piece of cinema history."

Bonhams' Catherine Williamson, director of entertainment memorabilia, added: "This Maltese Falcon statuette is one of the most important pieces of cinematic history ever to come on the market, and it is with great pleasure that we present this rare cinematic icon."

The statuette is joined by Sam Spades' burgundy leather chair from the film, which is valued at $150,000-200,000. It last sold for $32,200 at Christie's in 1997, demonstrating the ever-increasing value of top movie memorabilia.
