Captain Kangaroo puppets now at $19,000 with Nate D Sanders

The original Bunny Rabbit and Mr Moose puppets from Captain Kangaroo are selling well

Two original puppets from the popular US children's show Captain Kangaroo are currently selling at the head of Nate D Sanders' latest online auction, which will close on September 26.

Captain Kangaroo Mr Bunny Rabbit Mr MooseBoth puppets were operated by Cosmo Allegretti, who died last month

The puppets, Bunny Rabbit and Mr Moose, are selling as a single lot for $18,997, having already risen far past the minimum bid of $5,000. They were obtained directly from Bob Keeshan (1927-2004), who played Captain Kangaroo during the show's iconic 30-year run from 1955-1984.

The puppets are not only sought-after collector's items for nostalgic reasons, but also for their rarity, asone of only two pairs to have survived, the other having been donated to the Smithsonian.

Bunny Rabbit was a notorious trickster who would convince the captain to give him carrots, and is remembered by his horn-rimmed glasses, which will accompany the sale. Mr Moose would tell riddles and knock-knock jokes, which would inevitably result in hundreds of ping pong balls falling from above.

Both puppets were created and controlled by Cosmo Allegretti, who died in August 2013 at the age of 86.

In May, Nate D Sanders sold the Dancing Bear costume from Captain Kangaroo for an impressive $207,109.

Also selling well is a 4-panel Peanut comic strip, which has been signed by creator Charles Schulz. Showing Charlie Brown and Lucy playing outside, it is selling for $7,423.
