Bruce Springsteen's signed guitar rocks at Pennsylvania auction

'The Boss' showed that he's a force to be reckoned with on the auction block at Dan Morphy's sale

Sir Paul McCartney and Bruce Spingsteen's autographs starred among the rock 'n' roll memorabilia, and other weird and wonderful items, at Dan Morphy's auction in Pennsylvania on Tuesday (June 15).

The former Beatle's coveted signature appeared on a sunburst Fender Stratocaster guitar, selling for just $977.50 - a surprising bargain price for a McCartney autograph.

Signed by Bruce Springsteen, sold for $3,450

What's more, the lucky winner can expect to have an appreciating investment on their hands. According to figures released by the Financial Times, McCartney autographs have appreciated in value by an average of 27.3% each year over the last decade.

Alongside the McCartney sale was a guitar signed by another perennial rock 'n' roll icon. An American Flag Electric Guitar autographed by "The Boss", Bruce Springsteen, sold for $3,450 -above its pre-sale estimate of $1,500-2,500 -with authenticating certificates and appraisals.

Meanwhile, another Stratocaster signed by no-less than eight legends of rock - Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Sting, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen - realised a final price of $4,025.

As is normally the case at Dan Morphy auctions, a variety of wonderfully unique items also appeared on the auction block - including a dental chair and X-ray machine dated to circa 1880.

Of museum quality, the set - includinga chair, cabinet, mouth wash set, and pedal drill with two pictures - was another bargain, selling comfortably above its lower estimate for $2,185.

Elsewhere, for collectors on the look-out for rock 'n' roll memorabilia, all four signatures of Led Zeppelin, a rare hand drawing by John Lennon,a 1963 letter from McCartney written while recording The Beatles' first-ever LP, and McCartney's signed lyrics for Lady Madonnaareeach for sale on the market.
