Bordeaux wines 'dominated' markets in 2010 say Liv-Ex experts

Definitive 95% market turnover last year has consolidated the position of France's finest wines

We reportedly extensively on Bordeaux wines across 2010 -in particular the new 2009 which lived up the hype among critics, including Robert Parker, and collectors. With that in mind, it's no surprise that the region's wines dominated Liv-ex's trade figure in 2010.

According to the leading online exchange for fine wines, Bordeaux vintages accounted for a definitive 95% of the total exchange turnover. This is in comparison to having realised around 89% of Liv-ex trade in 2009.

"The driving force behindBordeaux's success is undoubtedly Chinese demand and the Far East's current predilection for Left Bank Classed Growths - particularly Lafite," says Liv-Ex's blog.

The tableabove shows each region's percentage of trade in 2010. According to the above figures, Bordeaux's share of trade has increased dramatically since 2005, while the past few months also show that demand is on the rise for Burgundy.

With the 2009 Burgundy tasting being held in London this month, Liv-Ex's experts are speculating if this will see a resulting spike in demand for the region's top wines.
