Bonnie and Clyde gun may see $100,000 at Missouri auction

Can a Smith & Wesson .32L gun belonging to Bonnie and Clyde improve upon 2012 results?

A gun taken from the car in which infamous outlaws Bonnie and Clyde were killed has been consigned to a US auction on February 2.

The Smith & Wesson .32L calibre revolver has not yet been given an expected sale price, though the same auction house previously sold two other Bonnie and Clyde-owned guns for a combined $210,000 in May 2012. Therefore$100,000seems a reasonable estimate.

A further two guns taken from the deadly duo's bodies after the shooting were sold for a combined $504,000 in October 2012.

After the couple were famously ambushed in Arcadia, Louisiana in 1934 and killed, the police uncovered a large cache of guns in the trunk of the car.

Clyde Barrow's family attempted to recover the guns unsuccessfully. The Smith & Wessonwas instead passed todeputy sheriff Reginald Hightower'ssister-in-law, Vern Hightower, as he believed she needed it for protection after becoming a widow.

The gun has since been passed down through Hightower's relatives, and is thought to be one of the only weapons found in the car that has not appeared at auction. It has previously been on display at the Texas State Fair and is currently requested by the Museum of Crime and Punishment in Washington DC.

America's outlaws have become extremely collectible, with Butch Cassidy's Colt .45 selling for $175,000 in October 2012. In June 2012, an original Jesse James wanted poster sold for $57,475, achieving a 129.9% increase on estimate.
