Billy Joel's piano auctions for charity on April 2

Billy Joel, the 'Piano Man', has donated his Steinway Baby Grand to an online charity auction

American musician Billy Joel has donated his Steinway Baby Grand piano to a charity auction, the proceeds of which are to benefit a number of music charities.

Bidding is expected to raise in excess of $60,000, 100% of which will go to Ten O'Clock Classics and the Amy Winehouse Foundation. At the time of writing, the piano has garnered eight bids, with the current highest standing at $30,000. With 14 days left to bid online, prices are expected to rise further. The hammer will fall on April 12.

Joel has previously made his commitment to music charities clear, commenting: "The most humanitarian cause that we can give our time to is the creation and performance of music itself."
