Bertold Loffler's poster for the 1908 Kunstschau Wein exhibition in Vienna made $52,500 at Swann Auction Galleries on April 24 - up 75% on its $30,000 estimate.

The show was held by members of the Weiner Werkstatte artists' collective, which included Gustav Klimt and Josef Hoffman among its members.

Loffler (1874-1960) joined the group, which operated out of a three storey building in central Vienna, in 1907.

Each section of the space was dedicated to a different branch of arts and crafts and ran until 1932, when the project closed due to the effect of the global economic depression.

A set of 10 anti-Nazi posters by the Taller de Grafica Popular made $45,000 - up an impressive 1,025% on a $4,000 estimate.

The Mexican leftwing group was formed in 1937 in response to the rise of fascism in Germany. The posters were printed in a run of around 2,000 to advertise a series of lectures held at the Palacio de Bella Artes in Mexico City in 1938.

A number of local artists affiliated with the group designed the prints. Few have survived, with the examples sold considered among the finest known.

We have a selection of posters available, including this extraordinary original advert for the 1968 Pontins May Ball.
