Beatles' Shea Stadium poster auctions in New York

The Fab Four will sell alongside Elvis Presley at Philip Weiss' music memorabila sale, this month

Philip Weiss auctions are teaming up with expert appraiser Gary Sohmers to hold a blockbusting sale of rock & roll memorabilia, scheduled for April 25.

The sale will be held at Sohmers' gallery in New York, and also online.

Rare collectible items will include a 1966 Beatles concert poster, along with an original 1975 contract signed by Elvis Presley to purchase his famous Graceland home in Memphis.

There will be plenty for Beatles fans in the sale. The concert poster is from the group's era-defining Shea Stadium gig of August 23, in a previously unseen format.

It is the same size as the cardboard poster (of which only four are known to exist) and on the same paper stock as the one-sheet poster (of which only one is known to exist).

The poster was authenticated by numerous concert poster experts at the recent Fest for Beatles Fans, along with concert promoter Sid Bernstein.

Also up for sale is the Beatles collection of Joy Waugh Donnell, who Paul McCartney one described as being "the number one Beatles fan in America."

Ms Donnell's collection bears that out. It includes a first state pressing of the famous Yesterday and Today "Butcher Cover" album (see our report, The most expensive piece of Beatles memorabilia ever?) and various items that were signed by all four Beatles.
