BBC children's TV classics come out to play in the UK

The Lowry Arts Centre charts the history of BBC children's TV, with a host of classics on display

The Lowry Arts Centre in Salford, UK has created an exhibition charting the history of the BBC's best-loved children's TV characters.

Retired Teletubby La-La is unwrapped for the exhibit, which features all the best memorabilia from BBC's children's shows

Sure to draw collectors, the exhibit has been titled Here's One We Made Earlier - a reference to the classic line from Blue Peter.

Some of the earliest pieces date to 1922, when the BBC introduced its first kid's show, Children's Hour.

Among the favourites are the original knitted puppets for The Clangers and Bagpuss, while modern heroes include the Teletubbies and Otis the Aardvark.

Children's TV memorabilia is a popular collecting area with the nostalgic among us. In May, the Humpty doll from BBC show Play School made a 420% increase on estimate to sell for 6,250 ($10,516).
