Barry McGee painting could make $80,000 in Florida

A Barry McGee painting leads an eclectic sale of contemporary art and design

A monumental painting by graffiti artist Barry McGee will carry a $50,000-80,000 estimate to Palm Beach Modern Auctions' November 2 sale in Florida.

McGee (born 1966)is a critically acclaimed San Francisco-based street artist whose work has featured in a number of high profile museums and galleries, most notably the 2001 Venice Biennale.

An influential name in the world of street art, McGee has pioneered a number of techniques - including the use of paint drips and the clustering of paintings for display in galleries.

He was married togroundbreaking female street artist Margaret Kilgallen, also known as Matokie Slaughter, until her death in 2001.

In 2007, a three panel triptych sold for $45,000 in Santa Monica.

A Michaele Vollbracht painting will also feature, with a $12,000-15,000 estimate. Vollbracht is an illustrator and fashion designer, most notably for the Bill Blass label, whose work featured in the private collections of luminaries such as Gerald Ford and Elizabeth Taylor.

Earlier this year a large scale Vollbracht painting sold for $15,000 at Palm Beach Modern Auctions.

Donald Roller Wilson's She Had Seen It is another notable lot, estimated to make $10,000-15,000.Wilson's work is a highly kitsch re-imagining of the work of the old masters - featuring animals dressed in vintage clothing.

Wilson's Moonlight Stroll through the Bamboo (1972) sold for $28,000 in New Orleans in 2010.
