Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale auction realises an outstanding $29.2m

Barrett-Jackson's outing at Scottsdale, led by the Batmobile, saw two new world records

Barrett-Jackson's 5000 Series auction at the Scottsdale event this weekend (January 19-20) saw impressive results, as the leading classic car auction house offered its finest consignments.

In a release, the auction house stated that the sale generated more than $29.2m, with bids led by the $4.6m Batmobile.

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedez-Benz 300SL Gullwingprovided the second highest selling lot,and the auction house also saw two new auction records. The 1947 Talbot-Lago T-26 Grand Sport set a new world record for the model at $2m, while the 1956 Chrysler Diablo Concept Convertiblebecame the world's most valuable Chrysler concept car at $1.3m.

According to the auction house, "it was clear from the cheers of the crowd and the final sales price that both cars showed strong results, signifying a rise in the collector car market".

Also starring in the top sales list is the 1934 Duesenberg J Murphy LWB Custom Beverly Sedan -a spectacular machine that sold for $1.4m. Following this was the 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda Convertible, which realised $1.3m.

President of Barrett-Jackson, Steve Davis commented: "The vehicles that sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this year were among some of the most exquisite cars I've ever seen and the experience is something I'll remember for years to come."
