Ayrton Senna F1 race suit to see $55,500 at RM's Monaco auction

RM Auctions' Monaco sale will feature Ayrton Senna's F1 race suit alongside memorabilia

RM Auctions' sale at this year's Monaco Grand Prix will offer Ayrton Senna's F1 race suit alongside a stunning selection of the world's finest vehicles on May 10.

The auction will include a small selection of memorabilia, with the race suit, worn by Senna in hisfirst place finish at the 1991 Monaco Grand Prix, expected to sell for $41,505-55,340.

Ayrton Senna first captured the attention of fans at the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix. Driving for Toleman, he qualified 13th and finished second, with a torrential downpour stopping the race before he could catch Alain Prost.

By 1991, Senna was with McLaren. There, from 1988-1993,he secured three Drivers' Championship titles. The 1991 Monaco Grand Prix saw him finish infirst for the fourth time in as many races that season.

The race suit is accompanied by documentation from Ron Dennis, team principal of McLaren at the time, who once kept the suit as part of his personal collection.

In March 2012, the Toleman F1 car that Senna drove atMonacoin 1984was offered at auction for $1.2m.

Also appearing in thepresent sale are 2005 Monaco Grand Prix helmets worn by Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen, valued at $20,752-27,670 and $24,903-30,431, respectively. Each were worn for practice, qualifying, and in the race itself and later gifted to a donor to the McLaren team.
