Autographed Apollo 11 cover at $30,000 in space memorabilia auction

The Apollo 11 cover was flown to the Moon and bears autographs from the Moonwalkers

A scarce autographed Apollo 11 flown cover will star among space memorabilia in a US auction on October 5-7.

The limited edition piece has been signed by all three crew members, and features an inscription from Buzz Aldrin that reads "carried to the moon on Apollo 11". In pristine condition, it also features a rubber stamped three-line note: "Delayed in quarantine at lunar receiving laboratory MSC Houston Texas".

Displaying a Webster, TX datestamp from August 11, 1969, two weeks after the crew safely returned to Earth, the cover itself is an official NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club item. Boasting a colour illustration of the Moon landing along with clear, bold signatures, it is expected to bring between $20,000-30,000.

We have a superb collection of Apollo 11 signed memorabilia, including a brilliant exhibition-quality piece.

An elaborate model of the first manned spacecraft, the Vostok 1, will sell with an identical estimate to the cover. The spectacular model is one of only five ever built and is the same example that was once presented to General Viktor Grishin, a high-ranking official of the Soviet government.

Made from stainless steel and glass, the highly-accurate model features functioning first generation transistor computer elements and a high frequency Okateli military speaker in its base, which emits the Vostok I signature signal.

Also featuring from Soviet space exploration is a 1962 official military model of the Mars 1, otherwise known as the "Lost Mars Probe". A similar model is currently held at the Moscow Aviation Institute, warranting an estimate of $15,000-20,000.
