The Apollo 17 was the 11th and final manned mission in the US Apollo space program. The flight remains the most recent manned Moon landing. The tool kit is believed to be the last complete set in existence and the only one on board the mission, making it an exceedingly desirable item for space collectors. The 16-piece set, which surprisingly featured a rather standard set of tools, was accompanied in the sale by a full collection of records, including its release from bonded storage. It went to auction with a minimum bid of just $1,000. A scarce flown medal from the Apollo 17 mission brought $48,878 in the sale.
