Andy Warhol's Self Portrait (1986) has sold for 2.8m ($4.9m) at an auction of contemporary art at Phillips London.

The print is among the last he ever produced before his death in 1987 at the age of 58.

In contrast to his timeless and iconic images of celebrities, the artist appears frail - his trademark wig askew.

Warhol's market remains exceptionally buoyant, with a series of major sales this year. These include Race Riot and White Marilyn, two works from the height of his career that sold for respective sums of $62.8m and $41m in May.

Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster)sold for $104.5m in November 2013, a new world record for the artist.

Mark Bradford's An Opening on the Left (2010) was another highlight of the July 2 sale, achieving 698,500 ($1.1m).

Bradford is a Los Angeles-born contemporary artist who produces large-scale paintings that make use of collage and resemble maps of his native city.

The record for his work was set at Sotheby's New York in 2013, when a piece titled Curtis (2007) sold for $2.2m.

Richard Prince's My Life as a Weapon (2012) from his joke series also sold well, achieving 680,500 ($1.1m).
