On November 8, a US auction house is to offera Cartier Tank Solo wristwatchthat once belonged to Andy Warhol.

The eccentric artist was once quoted as saying: "I don't wear a Tank watch to tell the time. In fact, I never wind it. I wear a Tank watch because it's the watch to wear." The stylish timepiece was the height ofluxury in 1973, and perfectly complemented Warhol's lavish lifestyle.

The watch was first acquired at Sotheby's 1988 auction of The Andy Warhol Collection, which saw the "legendary hoarder's" six-storey Manhattan townhouse emptied of its contents. Taking place over 10 days, the auction included an array of items amassed over the years, including the Cartier wristwatch.

The 18 karat yellow gold Tank Solo, which boasts a black crocodile strap, was bought by David Stickelber and has been consigned from his estate. It was displayedat Stickelber's homein an illuminated shadow box frame, along with a copy of the catalogue from the remarkable sale of Warhol's effects.

The frame, which will be included in the sale, still bears the original lot sticker and tag from the auction.The lotis expected to sell for $1,500-2,500. Also featuring is a lithograph print of Warhol's poster for Rainier Werner Fassbinder's 1982 film, Querelle. The framed lithograph is valued at $1,000-2,000.
