AMMONITE

This extinct cephalopod is a distant relative of the chambered nautilus. Like nautiloids their shell was divided into a number of chambers by septa. Ammonites lived during the Devonian Period about 350 million years ago. They occurred as many diverse species all over the world. This fossil is from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.
