Alice in Wonderland finds $15k at auction

A very special edition of Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass starred in PBA's Rare Books sale

The renowned children's author Lewis Carroll continued his posthumous run of auction success at PBA Galleries' Rare Books auction, last Thursday (March 4).

Previously, a first edition dedicated copy of his classic work, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There, auctioned for $115,000in December 2009.

The book was dedicated to none other than Alice Liddell, the real-life child on whom Carroll's fictional Alice was based.

 Sold for $15,600, thebook was the result of three years' work by a group of European artists

PBA's sale featured another very special edition of thebook -with cork covers, hand drawings and paintings. Only 25 copies were ever produced.

The edition was actually published in 2006,resulting from a three-year projectby a group of artists.

PBA timed its sale to coincide with director Tim Burton's newly-released Hollywood adaptation of the book, starring Johnny Depp (himself arare book collector) and Helena Bonham Carter.

Featuring artworks by artists Facundo Ali and Alicia Scavino, this rare and remarkablebook realised a final price of $15,600.
