Albert Anker world record achieved at Koller Auctions

Swiss artist Albert Anker's painting Turnstunde in Ins auctions for world record breaking $8m

An 1897 oil on canvas by Swiss artist Albert Anker has achieved a new world record price for the artist at auction, having brought $8m to Koller Zurich on June 21.

Albert Anker new world recordAlbert Anker painted Die Turnstunde in Ins in 1879, five years after compulsory gymnastics lessons for boys had been introduced in Switzerland

Turnstunde in Ins, a provincial street scene by Anker, is typical of the artist's later work, which made him one of Switzerland's most popular artists during the 19th century.

The second highest price of the auction series, which featured Swiss Art, Modern Art and Post War and Contemporary Art sessions, was achieved by Vincent Van Gough's Pont de Clichy - a luminous landscape by the sporadically-deranged Dutch master.

The 1887 "light-filled" oil on canvas made $7m, also on June 21, selling at the top end of its $5.2m-7.3m estimate.

We currently have this Pablo Picasso-autographed postcard in stock.
