Alan Ball's 1966 World Cup final shirt scores 51,755 in Edinburgh

Worn by the winning England squad's youngest player, it sold from teammate Nobby Stiles' collection

Former Manchester United and England footballer Nobby Stiles wasn't the only legend to score tens of thousands at Convery Auctions recent sale of Stiles' memorabilia, in Edinburgh.

Alan Ball (1945-2007, pictured top right) played alongside Stiles in the 1966 England squad's Word Cup final victory - and also happened to be the youngest player on the team.

The midfielders swapped shirts following the 4-2 victory against West Germany - and Everton player Ball's shirt remained in 68-year-old Stiles' collection ever since. It sold for 51,755 in Convery's auction.

Elsewhere in the sale, Stiles' former World Cup winning medal was bought by his former club, Manchester United, for a record-breaking 188,200. You can read our full report on the sale here.
