Adell Venus' miniatures collection realises $750,000 at Hindmann

The Adell Venus collection encompasses miniature dolls, antiques and books

The Adell Venus collection of miniatures has sold with excellent results in Leslie Hindmann Auctioneers' July 17 auction in Chicago.

Raheb's miniature book collection includes classics such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, Rob Roy and A Christmas Carol

The collection realised almost $750,000, with all 767 lots sold. Starring was a collection of miniature books published by Barbara Raheb at the Pennyweight Press, which sold for $23,750.

Further highlights included a pair of Louis XV style tables, measuring just 3 inches tall, which sold for $22,500, while a Queen Anne style ladies writing desk by Paul A Runyon made $10,625.

"A new standard has been set in the miniature world for quality works of art," commented John P Walcher, a specialist in fine furniture and decorative arts at the auction house.

The collection was accumulated by Venus - a leading authority in her field -over the course of 50 years, with most of the objects on a 1:12 scale. It includes tiny walking sticks the size of toothpicks and even miniscule taxidermy in the form of leopard and bearskin rugs.
