The ComicConnect September Monthly Auction is currently accepting bids on the near 400 auction lots on offer, with more added daily.

"The ComicConnect monthly auctions are always a treat for serious collectors, and dealers looking for good show stock or wall books," explained Metropolis and ComicConnect Vice-President Ben Smith.

"While all the press attention goes to our giant Event Auctions, these are the more low-key, fun affairs, with esoteric material and gems that might be overlooked in the frenzy of a bigger auction.

"There are some regular bidders that we always see coming around for these monthly offerings, so it's become like a virtual comic convention of its own."

Highlights from the auction include: Amazing Spider-Man #7 CGC 7.0, Avengers #47 CGC 9.2, Fantastic Four #59 CGC 9.2, Incredible Hulk #181 CGC 9.4, X-Men #2 CGC 6.0 and X-Men #94 CGC 7.0.

Interest in the Avengers comic may be boosted by the upcoming (2012) film of that name, starring Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr, just as it likely helped in their World Record Captain America sale

The auctioneer will be feeling especially confident at the moment about their Spiderman comics, given their recent sale (September 6). A CGC certified 9.4 copy of the very first appearance of the Amazing Spider-Man netted $325,000.

This is the second major sale of the blue-chip Silver Age comic reported ComicConnect. In March, the world record was set for the sale of the highest graded copy (CGC 9.6 NM+) at $1.1m.

"We're very fortunate to be able to match up the world's best comic book buyers with the very best comics in the marketplace," said Vincent Zurzolo, Chief Operating Officer.

"Not only is this a new record for a CGC 9.4, it's also the second highest cash price ever paid for a Silver Age comic," said Rob Reynolds, Director of Consignments. "This is the product of a lot of hard work and our dedication to providing the utmost in customer service to our clients."

Bids close in the current auction on September 26-27.
